History

As a company, Agoda was co-founded by two individuals, namely, Michael Kenny & Robert Rosenstein. Before Agoda, Michael Kenny began two different hotel booking websites, that are PrecisionReservations.com and PlanetHoliday.com, however, the companies combined and formed Agoda in the year 2003. In the year 2005,  Agoda.com was launched.

In the year 2007, Agoda was owned by The Priceline Group, which is today called Booking Holdings.

In the year 2014, Booking Holdings owned Qlika, which is an Israel-based startup primarily aimed at optimization of pay-per-click advertising.

The Qlika team combined with Agoda to automate as well as to measure their marketing systems.

In the year 2016, Booking Holdings further owned WooMoo, which is a Taipei-based startup aimed on mobile app prototyping. The WooMoo team combined with Agoda in Bangkok in order to work on the development of mobile app. And in May 2016, Agoda reviews started to appear on Google search results.

In the year 2018, Rob Rosenstein, who is the CEO and co-founder, became the Chairman of Agoda as well as a Strategic Advisor to Booking Holdings.

John Wroughton Brown, the COO, was further promoted as the new CEO of Agoda, with Chief Product Officer Omri Morgenshtern, who joined the company as part of the Qlika acquisition, named as the new COO.

In April 2019, Agoda announced an interest in pursuing a greater business emphasis in Israel and Europe. Particularly, Agoda wanted to expand its Tel Aviv-based data science team, increase sales, and purchase promising Israeli startups. In September 2019, Agoda began work with the company Digitas for data-driven content marketing across various Asian markets. Agoda added a feature called Mix and Save, which allows customers to choose multiple rooms in order to get the best deal.
